{"id":1370,"date":"2020-11-07T15:12:54","date_gmt":"2020-11-07T02:12:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ronella.xyz\/?p=1370"},"modified":"2020-11-07T15:22:17","modified_gmt":"2020-11-07T02:22:17","slug":"using-usb-to-connect-to-cisco-console","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ronella.xyz\/?p=1370","title":{"rendered":"Using USB to Connect to Cisco Console"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Pre-requisite<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows 64-bit<\/li>\n<li>Putty application<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Connecting to Cisco Console<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p>Access <a href=\"https:\/\/software.cisco.com\/download\/home\">https:\/\/software.cisco.com\/download\/home<\/a>. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This requires you to be logged in to download anything. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Search for the following:<\/p>\n<pre><code>Software on Chassis : 3945 Integrated Services Router<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>On the <strong>Select a software type<\/strong>, choose the following:<\/p>\n<pre><code>USB Console Software<\/code><\/pre>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Download the latest release <em>(i.e. 3.1 is the latest at the time of this writing)<\/em>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This is in the form of the zip file.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Extract the zip file<\/strong> and <strong>select which appropriate installer<\/strong> <em>(i.e. based on OS type)<\/em> you need.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>We will choose Windows 64-bit for this procedure.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Once the installer is identified, install it.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Insert the mini USB-B<\/strong> to the <strong>console port at the back<\/strong> of the cisco router.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Power on<\/strong> your <strong>cisco router<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Insert the <strong>USB-A<\/strong> to one of <strong>your computer's USB<\/strong> where you installed the <strong>USB Console Software<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Open your <strong>windows device manager<\/strong> and check the node, <strong>Ports (COM &amp; LPT)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Identify the <strong>COM port<\/strong> for <strong>Cisco Serial<\/strong>, as follows:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nasnz.ronella.xyz\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/cisco-serial.png\"><img src=\"https:\/\/nasnz.ronella.xyz\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/cisco-serial.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Once the COM port is identified, open your <strong>putty application<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Select <strong>Serial<\/strong> as the <strong>Connection type<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>In the <strong>Serial line<\/strong>, type in the identified <strong>COM port<\/strong> from step 11.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nasnz.ronella.xyz\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/com4-putty-connection.png\"><img src=\"https:\/\/nasnz.ronella.xyz\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/com4-putty-connection-300x293.png\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p>Click the <strong>Open button<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>This will open a cisco console, if everything is good.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pre-requisite Windows 64-bit Putty application Connecting to Cisco Console Access https:\/\/software.cisco.com\/download\/home.
